Below is a response from the portion of Thursday’s Inspirational Message that stated “Worrying is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere”.

For the most part I agree, but we must be careful not to confuse worry with concern.

Certain flight instructors were not worried that their students were only interested in learning how to fly an airliner, and not how to take off or land; however, they should have been concerned.

NASA officials were not worried that "O" Rings may not seal properly during cold weather; however, they should have been concerned.

Just a few years ago, people were not worried about buying homes with no money down; however, they should have been concerned.

BP executives were not worried that an off shore Oil Rig might blowup; however, they should have been concerned about the possibility.

The list goes on and on.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Inspirations for Wednesday, May 5, 2010

--

I typically do not share personal drama as a part of Inspirations, because frankly, it is seldom if ever Inspirational. Today I will make an exception because I think it may help establish the need for persistence and expressing gratitude.

As my wife Dianne and I paced the floor at two separate hospitals Tuesday afternoon and evening in prayer and support of two different relatives, one of the many thoughts that occurred to me was, “Well, I suppose I may have to skip sending Inspirations for Wednesday.” After all, I am tired, stressed, hungry (no fat jokes please) and very likely to get home very late.

The good news is that in both instances, prayer and medical know how has given both individuals another day, another chance, another cause for hope. More good news came in the form of me having access to the following quote:

--

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Martin Luther King, Jr.
1929-1968, American Civil Rights Leader

--

So in this time of personal drama, perhaps the reason I insisted on taking the time to send Inspirations is more to seek your prayers than to inspire you. Often we don’t really know why we persist in the face of adversity or inconvenience, but the important thing is to PERSIST ANYWAY!

Please keep us in your prayers.

Henry,

I fully agree with what is written below:

We need a renaissance of wonder. We need to renew, in our hearts and in our souls, the
deathless dream, the eternal poetry, the perennial sense that life is miracle and magic.

E. Merrill Root (1895-1973)
American Writer

But, would it not be far better if the following were added to the end:

... the deathless dream that all of God's Children are created Equal,
the eternal poetry that we are all Brothers and Sisters,
the perennial sense that we all have the obligation to treat all as our Equals.

Who am I but a grain of sand on a thousand mile beach.

But then again, a single grain of sand can be the catalyst for a priceless Pearl.

"I do think that l should look forward to the promissory note, why is it stated that we should not count on that!!! It’s like the ant story, they always prepare for the winter and that to me is what l call a promissory note, let’s talk about emergency savings, what do you call that, what about retirement funds, what is that really, saying we should not count on the promissory note is like telling a pregnant woman not to prepare for the birth of the baby with all that entails....as for the today, well, its cash at hand and we should not just use it but USE IT WISELY...

God bless"

--

Below is Our Response to the above message from Swit:

THANKS SO MUCH for your feedback. I fully agree that we should look forward to the promissory note, but not let it hold us prisoner. Yes, PREPARE, BELIEVE and PRAY for tomorrow, but do not be surprised or totally dependent on it turning out like we planned. As I sometimes share with my audiences, PLAN and WORK your plan as if everything depends upon you, and PRAY as if everything depends upon GOD.

Henry

Swit Rose commented on your note "Inspirations for Tuesday, April 20, 2010":
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 8:35 AM

"PREPARE, BELIEVE, PRAY n RECEIVE....l say yesterday is in the tomb and today is in our hands but tomorrow is still in the womb, l agree totally with what you say there....tomorrow does not necessarily mean the day after, why plan if you do not have expectations, that particular expectation is your tomorrow, that particular goal you have in mind is your promissory note, things may not turn out as you planned but your being aware of the worst and hoping for the best, that is your the womb...we PREPARE cause we need to go somewhere, we BELIEVE in what we are preparing to take root, we PRAY so that what we believe in our preparation will be successful n we RECIEVE the fruits of our labor coz of a combination of the previous three....hence why we have dreams...."

Below is feedback from Ors Banhidy:

Yesterday is a canceled check: Keep it for future reference - it will help you remember what you did right so you can do it again - it will also remind you of what you did wrong so that you don't do it again.

Our inspirational messages are often shared from a historical perspective by those some may not consider “everyday people with everyday problems.” Thanks to Jean Ford-Lawrence I am happy to share the following recent article from the Los Angeles Times.

Despite a life of hardship, he's headed for West Point

Throughout a turbulent upbringing and the dangers of South L.A.'s tough streets, Tyki Nelworth kept focused on his studies. It has paid off with a four-year scholarship to the U.S. Military Academy.

Adversity has stalked 18-year-old Tyki Nelworth. His mother is in prison, his father is deceased, and for years he was bounced from home to home.

But the senior at Washington Preparatory High School in South Los Angeles kept focused on his academic goals. He took Advanced Placement classes in English, calculus, biology, chemistry and physics, and nailed a 4.23 grade-point average.

Last week, he got his wish: He was accepted and received a four-year scholarship to the United States Military Academy.

"Indeed! Joy is found through being content with what is, rather than hung up on what was, or frustrated by what is not yet. It helps us move on and achieve our goals. If you want to be thought of as a solid, reliable pillar of your community when you're 50, you can't be an irresponsible, corner-cutting exploiter at 25.You determine your reputation by deciding who and what you are and by keeping that lofty vision of yourself in mind, even when you're having a rip-roaring good time.

William Raspberry

Publisher’s Comment: Please take William Raspberry’s quote with “grain of salt.” It is better to reform late, than to not reform at all. I don’t want you coming to me saying, “Well, I was 26 and read a quote you sent that said it was too late for me to change.”

Henry Ford

Our Thanks to our friend Rose for sharing the following:

Swit Rose March 25 at 9:15am

At times we put ourselves in situations where we think or feel that we cannot get ourselves out of it and we tend not to do anything about it blaming it on our notion that it’s too late for us to make amends.

Maybe you did not turn in that report in time, you did not apologize when you were supposed to, did not give your best in class or an interview, not giving your best in your relationship (friendship or romantic)....the list is endless.

Regardless of what your situation is, one thing for sure is that it’s never too late to write a wrong...it’s only too late if you let it be.

You have nothing to lose, in fact if you do not take a change and do something now, you will live with the question that we all hate...WHAT IF.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Otherwise, God bless.
